The Hand Project

Give hope - give a hand

Get involved socially and do something good. Gladly, but how? If we talk to family, friends, work colleagues or acquaintances about social commitment, it is usually immediately clear: people in need must be helped! Once the agreement has been reached, questions quickly follow: What can we do that makes sense? Where and how to start and how specifically to help? How is it guaranteed that my contribution actually reaches the people in need directly? And how will I find out later what happened to my donation? Which people are doing a little better now, where in the world did Fitting Day take place with "my donated hand prosthesis" and did it find a happy recipient there? We, the Team-Events.Berlin team, discovered “The Hand Project” for ourselves more than 5 years ago. Similar social projects in which mechanical hand prostheses are donated have been around for over 10 years. In Germany, this strong social hand project for victims of land mines, accidents or congenital defects is becoming more and more popular thanks to countless team building events, social Christmas parties, social days and trainee events.

So far, more than 10,000 hand prostheses have been fitted and given away in India, Uganda, Ghana and Nepal. We would like to work with you to ensure that more hand prostheses are donated to The Hand Project in the future. The Hand Project-Berlin.de - The real sustainable team building event with heart. Would you like to find out more?

This is how it works and how you can participate

How can the practical support for our "The Hand Project-Berlin.de" look like?

In recent years we have continuously developed our heart project - The Hand Project - and a lot of (life) time, energy and even more money has flowed into the development and improvement of the mechanical hand prosthesis. At every Fitting Day we discovered a multitude of improvement and change options and then later incorporated them into the construction and development of an even better hand prosthesis in Germany.

At the beginning and in particular focus is the event with our customers, who ensure that development, production and distribution on the Fitting Days are possible at all.

Live team events on site at our customers as a premium variant!

For us and our customers, the presence or live team events are particularly important and have a high priority in the implementation of our social hand project. With our The Hand Project-Berlin we are on the road all over Germany, but of course also all over Europe. Social team building events in Munich, Hamburg or Dresden are just as possible as social team events in Switzerland or England. The implementation on site is also very possible as a supporting program at conferences or as a social day.

Social team events (CSR) - make CSR tangible - even in Corona times!

Due to the unspeakable corona pandemic, we were forced to hold a large part of the social team events as online events in 2020 and 2021. At first we were very skeptical as to how we would be able to convey the spirit, mood and intention of the Hand Project to our customers in a video conference...

"Learning by doing" was the motto! In the beginning, video conferences were new territory for (almost) all of us - we and our customers were soon able to use e.g. Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Zoom (...) Conduct online events for the Hand Project.

We can now carry out a wide variety of variants professionally and offer a tailor-made online team event for every situation in the company:

Online team event: All participants are alone in their home office and each assemble a hand prosthesis. Here we are connected as moderators for everyone and lead through the team event.

Hybrid team event: There are teams of 3 - 5 participants, but at different locations. Here, too, we are connected online for all teams and moderate the social event.

Combination of online team event and hybrid team event: In this online event for the Hand Project, some of the participants are at one or more locations and the other part is individually in the home office. Here we also join in as moderators and can thus lead all participants at the most diverse locations through the social day together.

Remote - team building: Finally, after a long time, all employees meet again personally at one location and can e.g. For example, experiencing a social project together as a supporting program after a conference. In this variant, only we are connected online as moderators.

Every donation helps...

... to further advance the development of the Hand Projects-Berlin and to work on better technical solutions for hand prostheses and people with a wide variety of physical defects in their hands and arms.

...to continue the Fitting Days in Ghana, Bangladesh or Nepal and to be able to offer even more countries and dates if possible. The costs for the air freight of the hand prosthesis, flights & hotels, local costs and last but not least the loss of earnings during this time are very high. Unfortunately, these costs are not generated by the team events carried out and have so far been financed by us from our private pockets.

...to develop and promote new projects such as the "Wheel Chair Project".

A glimpse of the future and future development of the Hand Project!

The Hand Project is a continuous process of rethinking, incorporating and reflecting on experiences, finding new, better technical solutions and, above all, the aspiration to be able to respond better to the situation of the people on site. At the beginning we thought that the hand prosthesis was the solution for about 90% of people in need of help, now we know (!) for sure that the hand prosthesis, as we assemble it with our customers as part of the social team building events, fit for a maximum of 10% of the people on site as it was completed here…. Approximately 90% of hand prostheses cannot be used for actual hand/arm defects. This is of course a relationship and a "successful result" that was not at all acceptable to us. The frustration was high on both sides - after all, the hopes and expectations of the people, some of whom had to travel from far away and with great effort, had to be disappointed again and again. So we looked for solutions on how to help people...

... who have one or no wrist

...who no longer have a forearm

...who no longer have an elbow

... who no longer have a lower arm and upper arm or have never had one, etc.

The result after countless months of thinking, tinkering, trying out and starting experiments was a plastic with which we were able to create "connectors" between the remaining arm stumps and the hand prosthesis. We have also developed an artificial elbow to enable people with a hand prosthesis to lead a better everyday life.
